Amazon Expands SNAP EBT Program to Prime Members Nationwide

EBT Cardholders Gain Access to Low-Cost Grocery Delivery

Program Details and Eligibility

Amazon has expanded its Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) EBT program to Prime members nationwide. This pilot program allows eligible SNAP recipients to receive discounted grocery delivery and pickup services on Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods Market orders. Customers can add their EBT card to their Amazon account and shop for eligible items labeled SNAP EBT Eligible Delivery. Service fees and tips, if applicable, can be paid with non-SNAP funds. Prime members with EBT cards qualify for a low-cost monthly membership that includes free delivery on eligible orders over $35.

Expanding Access to Nutritious Food

"We're excited to offer this new program to Prime members who rely on SNAP benefits," said Amazon CEO Andy Jassy. "We believe that everyone should have access to affordable and nutritious food, regardless of their income." The program is part of a broader effort by Amazon to make grocery delivery more accessible to low-income families. In 2021, the company launched a partnership with the USDA to offer SNAP EBT recipients a 50% discount on Prime memberships.

Continuing the Pilot Program

Amazon has been collaborating closely with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to implement and evaluate the SNAP EBT pilot program. The program has proven successful in increasing access to healthy food for low-income families. The expansion of the program to Prime members nationwide is a significant step in making grocery delivery more affordable and convenient for SNAP recipients. Amazon remains committed to working with the USDA and other organizations to address food insecurity and promote nutritional well-being.
